Obituary for Winona Butler

Winona Arlena Butler, 92, of Leavenworth, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021. She was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Eskridge, Kan., the daughter of William Henry and Bertha Jane (McEndree) Prescott.

On July 5, 1946, Arlena married Ira Guy Butler in Idaho. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mart Butler; three siblings, Faye Mercer, Dean Prescott and LaMoyne Mercer.

She is survived by a son, Steve Butler of Leavenworth; a sister, Marvis Peterson of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Arlena was a member of First United Methodist Church and a Martha’s Circle Member. She loved sports and in her younger years she enjoyed golfing and bowling. Arlena was a fan of Royals baseball, the Kansas City Chiefs, KU and K-State basketball. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Heritage Center.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Harveyville Cemetery in Harveyville, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.
