Obituary for Vernon Waters
Vernon Eugene Waters, 86, of Leavenworth, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020. He was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Leavenworth, the son of Frank and Gertrude (Mann) Waters Sr.
On March 29, 1953, Vernon married Joy Dean Porter at High Prairie Church in Leavenworth, Kan. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marion Waters Sr., Frank Waters Jr., and Forrest Waters Sr.; and two sisters, Nida Lohman and Leah K. Turner.
Vernon is survived by two sons, Gene (Sharon) Waters of Leavenworth and Greg (Judy) Waters of Lansing; two daughter, Cindy Waters of Grandview, Mo., and Sandra (Dean Johnson) Kinney of Easton, Mo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Linda Kracht and Joyce Bakken; and one brother-in-law, Joseph Turner.
He worked at the Leavenworth County Coop for 33 years.
Vernon enjoyed hog farming, coon hunting and serving as a 4-H community leader. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the High Prairie Gospel Tabernacle.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
