Obituary for Valenia La Masney

Valenia (Vee) L. La Masney was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1935 to Ira Charles and Hazel (Beach) Iwerks. She grew up on a farm in Denver, Colorado and was the youngest of three brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Central Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in education.

She was married on August 2, 1958 to John W. (Jack) La Masney. Their marriage was the first to take place at the chapel on the college campus at CMSU. She loved to read, did a lot of scrapbooking, and KU men's basketball. She was also an active member of the Grandview Christian Church. She spent her career teaching, special needs children in the Kansas City Kansas public schools. She was very involved in Special Olympics. She did fundraising so that her students could compete. She loved decorating for the holidays as she welcomed her family and friends to celebrate at her home. A very kind and giving person.

She is survived by her son, C. Todd (Janet) La Masney of Kansas City, KS, daughter in law, Lisa La Masney of Roeland Park, KS;, Macy La Masney. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Christopher John La Masney; and her three brothers and three sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be at 11:30 am Thursday, December 15, 2022 at the Mary Ann Flunder Lodge by the Lake (KCKCC campus grounds). Burial will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
