Obituary for Thomas Fousek

Thomas Lee Fousek, 71 years old, of McLouth, Kan., passed away November 11, 2021 at home after suffering a massive stroke. He was born in Mitchell, S.D., to Dale and Ellestene “Tina” Fousek and was the oldest of seven siblings.
Tom worked in the agriculture and grain industries for 40+ years. Continental Grain moved him from Shelton, Neb., to Amarillo, Texas and Kansas City. He enjoyed being innovative, meeting new people, and traveling. Tom had a strong work ethic and a straight forward personality but a tender soul. You would know that Tom liked you if he teased you or gave you a hard time.
In his retirement, he loved fishing, cooking, gardening, riding horses and raising cattle. He took pride in his “farm” and like any good farmer he kept a close eye on the weather. He could tell you the weather report from Portland to Houston. He enjoyed serving on the Leavenworth Co Beef Improvement Association. He was a life time supporter and mentor to all the young people around him.
Tom is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca “Becky” Gentert. Tom is also survived by a son, Ben (Jamie) Fousek of Vernonia, Ore., daughter, Amy (Tom) Louie of Montague, Calif., and son, Trevor Fousek and Brenda Cabrera of Baytown, Texas; a grandson, Ellis Louie; his faithful dog, Abby; his brother, Doug (Marti) Fousek of Elba, Neb.; brother, Randy (Marcy) Fousek of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; brother Clint (Lori) Fousek of Central City, Neb.; sister Shelly (Scott) Haller of Central City, Neb.; sister Cindy (Gina) Fousek of Cedar Rapids, Neb.; brother Bill (Chris) Fousek of St. Paul, Neb.; the Gentert family; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will begin at 4 p.m. December 11, 2021 at Deer Ridge Estates in Tonganoxie, KS., with a meal to follow. All are welcome to attend and have a beer in Tom’s honor. Those wishing to honor Tom’s lifelong commitment to the community can make a donation to the Thomas Fousek Memorial Scholarship fund in care of Rebecca Fousek PO Box 513 Leavenworth, KS 66048.
