Sharon L. Sandercox, 73, of Leavenworth, KS, passed away, peacefully, at her home on July 26, 2022. She was born in Kenton, Ohio, on July 4, 1949, to Walter and Thelma (Taylor) Hankins.
During high school, she was a member of band and a majorette. She went on to study at Bowling Green State University briefly before marrying John Sandercox on September 5, 1969.
Sharon later continued her education and graduated with honors from the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She then taught second grade at Eisenhower Elementary School and eventually retired after 27 years.
She was a voracious reader and enjoyed learning about current events and local politics. She loved college sports and became an avid fan of motorsports, particularly NASCAR, and bestowed this love unto her grandson. She was a devoted wife, mother, and “Gram”.
Sharon is survived by her mother, Thelma; husband, John; daughter, Bethany and husband, U.S. Army Colonel Lee Magee; grandson, Garrett Magee; and three brothers, Jim (De), Ed and Tom (Beth) Hankins.
Per Sharon’s wishes, she will be cremated with no services. Cards and condolences may be sent to R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Memorials donations are suggested to Hope Pet Rescue, Leavenworth County Humane Society, KNEA or the University of St. Mary.
