Obituary for Shannon Smith
Shannon Nicole Smith, 45, of Leavenworth, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at KU Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 26, 1976, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Frederick and Patricia (Porter) Smith.
While in high school, Shannon was employed at the VA Medical Center as a dietary aide. Shannon graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School and attended American Intercontinental University in South Florida. While in Florida, Shannon was employed at Winn-Dixie Grocery Store. Later, Shannon resided back to her hometown of Leavenworth until her passing.
She is survived by her father; her daughter, Jasmine Wade of Frederick, Md.; five sisters, Lisa Dunn (JR) of Leavenworth, Debby Taylor (Frank) of Lenexa, Kan., Megan Washington (Darnell) of Lenexa, Kan., Shaunessy Smith of Leavenworth, and Brittany Smith of Wichita, Kan.; three brothers, Frederick Smith Jr. (Ruby) of Leavenworth; Robert Smith, of Springfield, Mo., and Michael Smith of Leavenworth; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Shannon was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Smith; a sister, Deanna Smith; a brother, Kevin Smith; maternal grandparents, Robert and Ernestine Porter; paternal grandparents, Esther Smith and Troy Raynor; and an uncle, Randy Porter.
She cherished spending time with her family and reading the bible. Shannon enjoyed puzzles and sports such as basketball and football, and she loved the Kansas City Chiefs.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home. The family requests all attending wear a face mask. Burial will follow at Mt. Muncie Cemetery.
