Obituary for Ryan Bockman

Ryan Bockman, 39, of Leavenworth, Kan. passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, with his baby girls asleep on his chest holding his hands, and his wife by his side. He was born June 15, 1982 in Rapid City, S.D., the son of John Bockman and Marla Rohlck.

Ryan graduated from Leavenworth High School, Highland Community College, and University of Saint Mary, where he played baseball. After college he worked at Dix’s Office Supply and Homers. In 2007, he went to work as a correctional officer at CCA until 2013. From there he went to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Correctional Officer and later a Material Handler Supervisor.

He met his wife Bobbi in Geometry class in 1999. They started dating January 19, 2000 and quickly fell in love. He married his high school sweetheart on July 16, 2005. The love they shared and the relationship they built was something many people don’t get to experience; it was quite magical. His baby girls Graycie and Khloe were his pride and joy. They brought him so much happiness. He loved spending time with them, playing barbies, school, card games, watching their favorite shows and making crafts. He was so proud of his girls and his family.

Ryan’s other passions included sitting on the patio drinking coffee, landscaping his yard, recycling, working on projects around the house, working out, and politics (Let’s Go Brandon). From a young age he fell in love with baseball and worked hard to become a great pitcher. He played up until he got sick this past year. Some of his baseball highlights were 1st Team All Sunflower in 2000 and 2nd Team All State in 2000. He went to state in 1999 as a pitcher and again in 2011 as a pitching coach. He was also voted top 100 Male Athletes at Leavenworth High School. In 2004 he played semi-pro ball for the Clarinda Iowa A’s baseball team. He was named 1st Team All KCAC Pitcher for Saint Mary in 2005 and was winning pitcher against Bellevue NE in USM’s only Regional Playoff win in school history.

He was a very exceptional and respected correctional officer. He took his job very seriously and excelled in all areas. He was always willing to assist in all aspects of maintaining the security and safety of the prison. He loved looking for contraband throughout the prison and even received a Contraband Hound Award. He received Correctional Officer of the Month a few times and was very proud of his Honor Graduate Title as not many people receive it. He was also a proud member of the Special Operations Response Team.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Bobbi Bockman; his daughters, Graycie and Khloe; his brothers, Michael (Jennifer) Bockman, Jesse (Rachelle) Bockman; his mom, Marla (Steve) Rohlck; in-laws, Wayne and Suzanne Files; sisters-in-law, Stephanie (Chris) Mullins, Missy (Luke) Scott, Amy (Ramon) Files; brother in-law, Chad Whitlow; 13 nieces and nephews, his many best buds, tons of friends, co-workers and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, John; his Papa Harold and his Nanny Carol.

A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Riverfront Community Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Driven To Cure, for research towards rare kidney cancers. (driventocure.org)
