Obituary for Ronald Johnson

Ronald Lee Johnson, age 75, of Manhattan, Kansas passed away on December 20th, 2020 after just over a year long fight with Leukemia. He was born in Lenoir, NC on November 9th, 1945 to Roy L. Johnson and Violet G. (Smith) Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mark C. Johnson. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Daranee Johnson, his daughters, Beverly Jordan, Elizabeth Teague, and Jessica Kurtz, 10 grandchildren, and brother, Dave L. Johnson.

Ronald was a 1964 graduate of Statesville Senior High School, a 1968 BA graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College, a 1981 graduate of Masters in Intl’ Relations of Boston University, and 1992 graduate of Masters in Science of Kansas State University. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and Persian Gulf I (Operation Desert Storm). After his retirement from the Army at the rank of SGM, he Received a Masters of Science degree from Kansas State University and became an educator serving in various school districts in the Riley County area in Kansas. He served in numerous positions within the Teachers Union during his tenure at Manhattan High School including Membership, Negotiations, Vice President, and President. He was a strong advocate for teacher’s rights. His education career came to a close upon retirement in 2013.

Ronald spent retirement enjoying the home life with his beautiful wife and visiting his rambunctious little grandchildren. His favorite past-time was camping at Tuttle Creek Park, watching the water from their comfortable RV. Occasionally, he enjoyed going to the firing range with those dear to him.

Private graveside services with military honors will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery. A memorial service will be at a later date.
