Obituary for Roger Tolliver Sr.

Roger Keith Tolliver, Sr., 78, of Leavenworth, passed away Jan. 13, 2022. He was born July 20, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo., to Collin Malcolm and Bessie Louise (Dowell) Tolliver. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Independence, Mo.

Roger graduated from Van Horn High School in 1961.

Following graduation, Roger enlisted in the United States Army until 1964. He was stationed at Fort Leavenworth as Air Defense working on the Project Nike missile site.

While he was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Roger met and married the one true love of his life, Laura Ann Wardlow. After only one week of dating he proposed, and she accepted. They were married Oct. 5, 1963. She survives at the home after 58 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter, Kellie (Duane) Edwards; his son, Keith (Vanessa) Tolliver; two granddaughters, Brittany Broom and Shelby (Daniel) Monroe; a grandson, Collin Tolliver; two great-grandsons, Dayton Smith-Broom and Jaydon Broom; a great-granddaughter, A’liliana Mann; and his grandchildren by choice, Alyssa Tyron and Marcell Bailey.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beverly Ashlock and Nola Gonzales; a brother, Jack Tolliver and a grandson, Spencer Tolliver.

After his service in the military, Roger was employed by Select Products a division of Hallmark for 40 years as a machinist.

During retirement he enjoyed spending time in his workshop building and creating. Roger loved spending time with his family and lifelong friends. He and Laura hosted many dinners and cookouts at their home. Roger always enjoyed a good steak on the grill.

He passed away peacefully with his loving wife, daughter and granddaughter, Brittany, next to him as he took his last breath. He will be missed tremendously.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Muncie Cemetery.
