Obituary for Richard O'Donnell
Richard "Richie" W. O'Donnell, 30, of Basehor, Kan., died Sunday, June 5, 2022. He was born November 1, 1991, in Leavenworth, Kan., the son of Richard E. and Christine L. (Reilly) O'Donnell.
He graduated from Basehor High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. He had decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and began a career as a correctional officer at Lansing Correctional Facility.
Richie is survived by his parents; his son, Richard William O’Donnell II; a brother, Ryan (Lauren) O’Donnell; a sister, Reilly O’Donnell; his grandparents, William and Cheryl Reilly and Bonnie Petrie; two aunts, Shannon (Joe) Coombs and Heather Reilly; three uncles, Jeff O’Donnell, Jay O’Donnell and Larry O’Donnell; and cousins, Regan, Rylan, Ritter Coombs; and numerous other extended family members.
From a young age, Richie loved to play basketball and football. He was a loyal Xbox player and he thrived on a good conversation or debate. Richie was a devoted father, son, brother and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially the two loves of his life, Little Richie and Emalee Heim.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to a fund for his son, Richie O’Donnell II, Venmo: @LittleRichie-ODonnell.
