Obituary for Richard Jackson

Richard “Dick” Jackson, 75 years of age, passed away, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Providence Medical Center. He was born Aug. 31, 1946, in La Junta, Colo., to the late Keithel and Frances Jackson.

On February 14, 1999, he married Cynthia Jackson of Lansing, Kan. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Brian (Tricia) Jackson and Christine (Peter) Barrett both of Leavenworth, Kan.; Richard “Papa” had five grandchildren, Zachary Jackson, Natalie Barrett, Jackson Barrett, Jacob Jackson and Braden Jackson; his extended family include two daughters, Lindsay (Jeff) Hagen and Ashley Schmitt both of Lansing, Kan., and their children Christopher Krites, Hank Hagen, Kaylee Krites, Jesse Hagen, John Schmitt and Olivia Schmitt.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Caroline “Peach” Steele. He is also survived by his siblings Danny Jackson, Mary Jo (Eldon) Schumacher and Susan (Hershel) Hall.

He served his country with pride as a member of the 509nd Airborne in the US Army. He retired with over 36 years of service as a Biomedical Engineer with the Veterans Administration. Richard enjoyed many hobbies to include cycling, hunting, sailing, gardening and shooting sports. He especially loved spending time outdoors.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or The Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society.
