Obituary for Richard Brantley Sr.

Richard O. Brantley, Sr., completed his race and crossed the finish line into Heaven on August 28, 2021. He stayed the course and now wears his crown of righteousness and glory.
"But those, who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on, wings like eagles, they run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" - Isaiah 40 :3 1
He was born in Milledgeville, GA, on August 4, 1935, to Ben and Mary Ann (Baker) Brantley. He was the youngest of seven children. After graduating high school, he attended college and in 1960 enlisted in the US Army, obtaining the rank of Sergeant, proudly serving his country for two years as a Clinical Psychology Specialist.

Richard worked for the Veterans Administration Leavenworth, KS, in the Dietary Department for five years after his honorable discharge. He then worked for Bell Hall at Ft. Leavenworth, where he was quickly promoted to supervisor. During his tenure at Bell Hall, he received numerous awards, accommodations and later retired after 33 years of dedicated service. Richard was a master gardener; he took pride in his flavorful tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, and greens, which he loved sharing with anyone who stopped by. No one was a stranger to this strong but gentle spirit. His life's mission and mantra were - open arms with a loving heart to all.

Richard confessed his love for Christ, living his life to obtain the promise of God that he would behold and see his Savior's face.

He met the love of his life Edna M. Washington Maxey, and they were wed in 1971, remaining as one for 50 glorious years. Richard and Edna were blessed to be the parents of a blended family where joy, love, and laughter abounded.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Richard M. Brantley and Kevin V. Maxey, Sr.; four brothers, Robert L. Brantley, Johnny L. Brantley, Charles A. Brantley, and Willie N. Brantley; two sisters, Eva M. (Brantley) Gleason and Lillian L. (Brantley) Parham.

He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy his wife Edna M. Brantley, Leavenworth, KS; 4 sons Richard 0. (Theresa) Brantley, Jr., GA, Robert C. Brantley, GA David A. Brantley, and Oza Maxey, III, Leavenworth, KS; 5 daughters Patricia Brantley Harper, GA, Mary F. Brantley, GA, Jackie (Steven) Fields, Kathy (Dennis) Rodgers and Rev. Tracy M. Jarrett, all of Leavenworth, KS; 12 grand-daughters Jessica M. (Ernest) Winston, Alexandria, VA, Jennifer Brantley , Montello, WI, Taleesha D. Netherland, and Ashley N. Netherland, Leavenworth, KS, Haley Maxey Brown, La Cygne, KS, LeJoi Lane, DeChanta Brantley , Shanita Brantley, Leah Richardson, Patrice Harper, Crystal Harper and Tanya (Cameron) Tucker all of Georgia; 5 grandsons, Cory (Alana) Brantley, Meridian, CO, Oza Maxey, IV, La Cygne, KS, Anthony Brantley, Adrian Brantley, Leavenworth, KS, and Shawn Brantley, GA; great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends .

He also leaves to cherish his memory, his remarkable family, the entire staff at the Twin Oaks Health and Rehab Facility that cared, loved, and ran with him to the finish line.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
