Obituary for Raymond "Butch" Boyd Sr.

Raymond “Butch” Earl Boyd Sr., 78, of Leavenworth, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at Advent Health Hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1943, in Leavenworth, the son of Cary and Elizabeth (May) Boyd.

He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1963. Shortly after he joined the Kansas National Guard and his unit was activated during the Vietnam War in 1968.

On Feb. 27, 1965, Butch married his high school sweetheart, Helen Walkenbach, at Immaculate Conception Church in Leavenworth. She survives at the home after 56 years of marriage. He is also survived by a daughter, Brenda (Steve) Nooner; a son, Ret. Lt. Col. Raymond (Jeanette) Jr.; four grandchildren, Rachel (Ryan) Pierce, Clint (Taylor) Boyd, Cameron Nooner and Sara Nooner; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Imogene (Byron) Hodges, Irene Brosa and Barbara (Donald) White; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law; and a nephew.

Butch worked at Hallmark Card Select Drive for over 35 years before retiring in 1999. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Kickapoo Fire Dept. for 14 years.

He loved refinishing antique furniture. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and his large vegetable garden.

He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Visitation beginning with the rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Immaculate Conception Church, with Rev. Glenn Snow, O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Church.
