Obituary

Michele Charleen (Lane) Forge, 63, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away, Feb. 23, 2021. Michele was born Jan. 5, 1958, in Townsend, Mont., to Leo and Florence (Smet) Lane. Michele grew up on a cattle ranch in Three Forks, Mont. with her five sisters and one brother. Growing up, she enjoyed riding horses, participating in sports and playing her guitar.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Michele along with her sisters, attended Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, Kan. There she earned her elementary education degree in 1980. She was also involved in music ministry. Michele married David Forge on July 12, 1980, and they raised their four children in Leavenworth, Kan. where their home was always welcoming of friends and family. Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her children and grandchildren. In addition, she was a beloved second grade teacher at Lansing Elementary for 33 years. She was committed to her faith and was very proud to lead the children's choir for many years. Her smile was infectious and she knew no stranger. Michele’s energy and positivity will be greatly missed.

Michele is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Flo Lane; in-laws, Herman J. and Eleanor Forge.

Surviving family includes her husband, David Forge of the home; four children, Luke Forge, Edwardsville, Kan., Rebecca Evans (Michael), St. Joseph, Mo., Michaela Schattle (Bobby), Plano, Texas, and Kerianne Nash (Greg), Basehor, Kan.; six grandchildren, Lucy, Oliver, Augie and Mae Evans and Cecilia and Mary Clare Schattle; six siblings, Monica Guenther-Anderson (Terry), Mary Olson (Jerry), Margy Laird (Jim), Melinda Walls, Leo Lane (Kari) and Melanie Wilcox (Shawn); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation beginning with praying of the rosary will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Glenn Snow, O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will be in Montana. The family has requested memorials be made to the scholarship fund at the University of Saint Mary in Michele’s name. Love and Prayers.

I had the privilege to be in Mrs. Forge’s second grade class of 1987-1988 (the year baby Michaela was born). I don’t have specific memories of her but I always have and will say she was my favorite elementary school teacher. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Dave and Family,
It has been over a decade since I last spent time with Michele and words are insignificant to describe the depth of sorrow in hearing of Michele's passing. I have so many fond memories of spending time with Michele and her family in Three Forks. Visiting the Lane house was like stepping into the 'Sound of Music' with The "Von Trapp 'Lane'" family. Flo gathered "her girls" around the piano to sing and play guitar. Michele was blessed with so much talent and shared her love of music, athletics, animals and mischief with those around her. She was a magnet - attracting others with that beautiful smile and glint in her eyes! She touched so many, in her short life. May our Lord surround you with his grace and mercy as you say good bye, and the angels lead Michele into paradise. Please accept my deepest sympathies in the loss of your wife, mother, grandmother. God Bless, Lori Murphy-Moullet
