Obituary for Michael Daniel

Michael Anthony Daniel, 62, was born April 10, 1958 in Fort Gordon, outside of Augusta, GA, the sixth child born to the late Rev. Claud Daniel Jr. and the late Kathryn Ann (Smith) Daniel. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning March 27, 2021.

He was two years old when the family moved to where his father was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS in 1960. Michael attended the Leavenworth public schools and received his GED. He later went on to study at Phillips Jr. College in Columbus, GA, and this is how his brothers nick-named him “The Professor”.

Michael was baptized in the name of Jesus, at the Pentecostal Church of the Apostolic Faith, in February of 1975 by the Late Elder Julius A. Goodwin Sr.

After a while Michael entered the US Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 1976. After exiting the military, he worked as an assistant to Director of Holmes Funeral Home in Leavenworth.

Michael loved spending time with friends and family, and was well known for his laugh! He could tell jokes all day long and keep a straight face, but when he started to laugh, you just had to laugh with him! He had a love for cooking soul food dishes and his “specialty” was turkey necks and rice!! In his pastime, Michael enjoyed writing, telling stories, and just having fun. Right now, Michael has a collection of stories which are ready for publication! He was very intelligent, with an amazing sense of humor.

Michael leaves to cherish his memories, 5 brothers, David T. Daniel and Jeffrey K. Daniel of Long Beach, CA; Kenneth W. Daniel (Martha) of La Habra, CA; Ron C. Daniel (Gloria) of Leavenworth, KS; Russell Daniel of Griffin, GA; 1 brother-in-law; 2 sisters Denise J. Moore (Allen) of Lansing, KS; and Lois Y. McFadden of Topeka, KS; 3 aunts, Nancy Smith of Augusta, GA, Clara Smith of Leavenworth, KS and Lois Daniel Steward of Phenix City, ALA; his best friend for over 20 years Matt Gray of Columbia, MO; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Milton B. Smith and Don C. Daniel; 3 nieces Minka Williams, Dynasty Reese and April Goodwin; and 1 nephew Christopher Reese. He will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
