Obituary for Mary Sculley

Mary Kathleen (Kearney) Sculley, 72 of Leavenworth, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2020. She was born May 1, 1948, at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Kan., the daughter of Regina Mary (Gonnering) Kearney and John Thomas Kearney of Belpre, Kan.

She attended St. Bernard’s grade school in Belpre and graduated from Belpre-Trousdale High School in 1966. She graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in social work. Mary began her career as a social worker in Leavenworth and continued there until she retired.

Mary and Ken (Kenny) Sculley were married on June 23, 1979. Mary supported Ken in his business as co-owner and bookkeeper for Ken’s Garage and Muffler Masters of Leavenworth.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Kenny, her parents and her brother, John Patrick Kearney.

She is survived by her son, Troy (Angela) Sculley; two grandsons Kenneth John of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and Jonathon Edward of St. Joseph, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Olivia Makaelyn Nichelle and Makenna Raelyn of Leavenworth. Other survivors are two brothers, David Kearney of Larned, Kan. and Thomas (Louise) Kearney of McPherson, Kan.; two nieces, two great nephews, and a great niece.

Mary and Ken and later Troy owned and operated Ken’s Garage and Muffler Masters for over 44 years, which is still a landmark business in Leavenworth. She was a loving and wonderful person, mother, grandmother, animal lover and diehard KU fan.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels or Leavenworth County Humane Society.
