Obituary for Mary Schowengerdt
Mary Ruth Schowengerdt, 65, died September 23, 2021. She was born December 20, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of William and Ruth (Quinn) Todd.
She is survived by her fiancé, Kevin Furst, of Merriam, Kan.; four children, Brian Rottinghaus (Brandy) of Olathe, Kan., Joseph Schowengerdt, of Portland, Ore., Peter Schowengerdt (Kathleen) of Leavenworth, Kan., and Alison Bauer (Joel) of Leavenworth, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Sean Ryan of Boonville, N.Y., Raleigh Grabill of Tonganoxie, Kan., Myles Schowengerdt of Leavenworth, Kan., Morgan Sylvester, of Roeland Park, Kan., Ramona Sylvester, of Roeland Park, Kan., Lucy Bauer of Leavenworth, Kan., and Bennett Bauer of Leavenworth, Kan.; nine siblings, Susan Contractor (Darius) of Overland Park, Kan., Beth Morgese (Albert) of Napa Valley, Calif., Laurie Todd Hess (Jerry), of Shawnee, Kan., William Todd Jr, of Liberty, Mo., Anthony "Tony" Todd of Leavenworth, Kan., Margaret "Peggy" Todd (Ed), of Basehor, Kan., Patricia "Patty" Todd of Bonner Springs, Kan., Michael Todd (Mandy) of Shawnee, Kan., and Annie Nichol (Jeremiah), of Leavenworth, Kan.; and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Erin and Jacob Schowengerdt; one grandson, Cooper Schowengerdt; and five siblings, Kathy Todd, Linda Whetstone, John Todd, Joseph Todd and Theresa Eibes.
She was a registered nurse and dedicated 20 years to caring for her patients in the post-partum unit at Providence Medical Center. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a gift for home decorating and cooking. She was a strong, hard working woman that endured so much pain and trauma in life, but was still able to enjoy life with her family and friends.
Mary will be missed by many.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, at Westside Family Church, 738 Eisenhower Rd., Leavenworth, KS, 66048.
