Obituary for Mary Ann Geris

Mary Ann Geris, 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo. She was born Nov. 26, 1945 at St. John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., the oldest of ten children born to Herman Forge, Jr. and Eleanor (Heim) Forge.

Mary Ann attended Coffin and Salt Creek Valley Grade Schools and graduated from Immaculata High School, class of 1963.

After graduation she went to work at Fort Leavenworth as a civil service employee in the Installation Supply and Services Division. In the following years, she worked for several organizations at Fort Leavenworth, retiring in 1992. While working she met her future husband, Edward J. Geris where he was stationed at the time. They were married on July 31, 1965, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He survives at the home.

They were blessed with two sons who provided such joy and pride to Mary Ann. They created a lifetime of memories while traveling on family vacations when the boys were young. Her life became complete when they made her a grandmother. Mary Ann treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews, always interested in their lives and present at their special events.

Mary Ann enjoyed sewing, taking pictures and listening to country music. She especially liked Garth Brooks and had the opportunity to attend several of his concerts while she and Eddie traveled in their retirement. To her delight, she once posted an online comment about him that was quoted on the front page of a national newspaper. Mary Ann will be remembered as a special lady who was kind, compassionate and welcoming to all she met.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her two sons, Joe (Tricia) Geris of Shawnee, Kan., and Mark (Sharon) Geris of Vancouver, Canada; her grandchildren, Lauren Garcia-Metcalf (Angel), Daniel Geris, Ryan Geris, and Will Geris; her great-grandchildren, Angel Cruz and Adrian Garcia-Metcalf; four sisters, Kathy (Everett) Campbell, Janie (Don) Plance, Elaine (Mike) Jarvis and Shirley Vosseler; four brothers, Jim Forge, Gary Forge, David Forge and Dennis (Sherry) Forge; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Herman J. Forge IV; a nephew, Michael Plance; a niece, Jessica Plance; her brother-in-law, Tom Vosseler; and her sister-in-law, Michele Forge.
