Obituary for Marcus Mack

Marcus Anthony “Monkie” Mack gained his wings to glory Friday, May 5, 2023, at Providence Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1986, in Landstuhl, Germany, to parents Mary (Mason) Mack and Willie Mack Sr., both of Leavenworth.

He attended David Brewer Elementary School in Leavenworth, as well as West Middle School and graduated from Leavenworth High School. Throughout his life, Marcus showed what an amazing athlete he was in many different sports such as Basketball, Baseball and Track. Basketball quickly became his true love, he played not only in his middle school and high school years, but also AAU summer league which helped show his true competitive spirit.

After graduating high school, Marcus joined the Army Reserves, getting the opportunity to serve his country. Once he left the Reserves, he started the journey towards his passion to be in healthcare. He got his CNA certification and worked at a couple of nursing homes in the area. He had such joy working with children, the elderly and disabled. He soon found another love, MMA and took to the ring for several years along with his older brother Willie Jr. In his days of in-ring competition, he would tell you that he didn’t get knocked out once until he ran up on his mom, who gave him that TKO, which he called a lucky shot. He also had a love for drawing and wanted to write a children’s book one day.

Anyone who knew or met Marcus loved him, his kind heart and his contagious smile. He never met a stranger and will be truly missed by all.

He is survived by his parents; daughter, Tessa Grape; and son, Marcus Mack Jr (Olathe); brother, Willie Jr. (Leavenworth); sisters, Charity Bowles (Olathe) and Trinity Mack (Leavenworth); stepmother, Lucinda Mack (Kansas City); nephews, Demarion Bowles, Damien Bowles and Willie Mack III; nieces, Adiana Mack-Davis, Daisy Wheeler and Alara Mack; many aunts and uncles as well as a host of special friends and extended family members.
