Obituary for Leona Budke
Leona Ann Budke, 86, of Leavenworth, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at home. She was born April 24, 1936, in Downs, Kan., to Frank and Philomena (Gradig) Wagner.
On May 16, 1959, Leona married William J. Budke in Tipton, Kan. He preceded her in death in January 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Loretta Eilert.
Leona is survived by six children, Jim (Patsy), Bob (Kathy), Linda Heintzelman (Jerry), David (Michelle) and Cheryl Budke all of Leavenworth, and Dennis (Molly) of Shawnee, Kan; 10 grandchildren, Brian Heintzelman (Sophia), Brent Heintzelman (Sara), Matt Budke, Dillon Budke, Jessica Budke, Tyler Heintzelman (fiancée Elizabeth), Lydia Budke, Josh Budke, Jake Budke and Hayden Malone; three great grandchildren, Stetson Heintzelman, Whit Heintzelman and Jude Heintzelman; a brother, Eugene Wagner (Barb) of Downs, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leona enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to grandkids’ sporting activities and being outside as much as possible - whether just sitting on the back patio or going for a walk.
Visitation beginning with praying of the rosary will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Church, with Fr. Glenn Snow, O. Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to RBP - Research to Prevent Blindness, specifically Macular Degeneration, St. Joseph Church, Xavier Catholic Schools or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
