Obituary

On May 31, 2021, Kevin Vanoy Maxey, Sr., heard the soft calling of the Master’s voice and without hesitation marched upward to Zion into that beautiful city of God.

Kevin the first child of Oza Maxey, II and Edna M. Brantley, was born in Temple, Texas. He attended schools in St. Joseph, MO and Leavenworth, KS and upon completion of his education in 1974, enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country for two years and was released from active duty. Upon his return to Leavenworth, KS, Kevin became employed at the Commissary in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, where he gave 14 years of dedicated service.

Kevin professed his love and belief in Jesus the Christ at an early age and through this love and his steadfast faith anchored his soul in the Lord. This professed faith and spirit created a man that was forever open, cheerful and joyful to all – Kevin never met a stranger. He always had a bright smile and a twinkle in his eyes as he tilted his head to say “Hey, what’s up”. Kevin never backed away from a challenge, one would say his mantra was grounded in Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

Kevin was the proud father of three children, two sons Christopher Maxey (who proceeded him in death), Kevin V. Maxey, Jr., and one daughter (Micheala D. Maxey)
He was greeted in Heaven by his father Oza Maxey, II; son Christopher Maxey and brother Michael Brantley.

Kevin with Love leaves to cherish is memory and bright smile, his Mother and Step-father, Edna and Richard Brantley, Leavenworth, KS; son, Kevin V Maxey; daughter Micheala D. Maxey; three sisters, Jackie (CW4 US Army (Ret.) Steven) Fields, Kathy (Dennis) Rodgers and Rev. Tracy M. Jarrett; two brothers Oza Maxey, III and David Brantley, all of Leavenworth, KS. He also leaves four nieces; SMSgt Jessica M. (SMSgt Ernest) Winston, Alexandria, VA, Taleesha D. Netherland and Ashley N. Netherland, Leavenworth, KS, Haley Maxey Brown, La Cygne, KS; four nephews, SSG Cory (Alana) Brantley Meridian, CO, Oza Maxey, IV, La Cygne, KS, Anthony Brantley and Adrian Brantley, Leavenworth, KS; one great-nephew, Devin Winston, Alexandria, VA and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 Tuesday following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
