Obituary for Joshua Myers

Josh Myers, 31, of Leavenworth died, Feb. 29, 2020, from an addiction with opioids and heroin that he fought very hard to overcome. He was the beloved son of Jeffrey and Janet (Hatch) Myers.

Please know that no one plans to be an addict.

Josh was a treasure and was loved deeply, with so much promise and yet he still died from his addiction. Addiction does not discriminate. Using these drugs once is all that it takes to get hooked; from then on you are playing Russian roulette. This is what happened to Josh.

He was an outgoing, wonderful person that was full of love for his family and friends, he had a zest for life and would do anything for family or friends. He loved the outdoors; especially fishing and anything with an engine was his passion.

Josh was sober and clean for the last six years, but one slip up took his life and drugs won the battle. The day Josh died, a part of us died along with him. We will miss him every day for the rest of our lives. The pain of his death is heartbreaking and intolerable, which is why stories like Joshua's should not be ignored. The only way we will conquer this epidemic is to share our stories and raise awareness. Josh, we hope that you have now found the peace you so desperately searched for.

Josh will be greatly missed by his parents; three sisters, Jessica, Nicole and Julianne Myers; two brothers, Jeffrey and James Myers; his beloved partner in life Dakotah Ford and their children, Lily Myers and Ryan Mayden; Candice Gates and their child together, Cylus Myers; a loving grandmother, Laurel Trouchon; uncles, aunts, cousins and his many many friends.

A celebration of life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with his Eulogy read at 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. If you have a nice story about Josh, please write it down and bring it with you, to give to the family. Please know that Josh left a young family behind so In lieu of flowers, if you would like to donate to his family please bring it and there will be a basket for any donations.
