Joseph Frederick “Fred” Hattok, 84, of Leavenworth, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was born September 21, 1938, in Leavenworth, KS and was the son of Joseph C. and Delvina (Lambert) Hattok.
He attended Mount Olivet Grade School and was a graduate of Immaculata High School in 1956.
Fred spent 25 years working as a machinist in Leavenworth for Boles Auto Supply and Midwest Auto Supply. He then worked in customer service at Napa Auto Parts and O’Reilly Auto Parts before retiring. He missed the people and business so much that he returned to O’Reilly Auto Parts as part-time. Regardless of the place he worked customers, mechanics and dealerships would wait in line for as long as it took to benefit from his expert knowledge and personal service.
On June 17, 1961, he married Virginia “Ginny” Hattok. Fred is survived by four children, Lori (Rob) Simmons, Deborah (Matt) Ernzen, Mark (Lori) Hattok and Patricia (Allen) Serrano; 11 grandchildren, Kevin (Shelby) Sloan, Jeff Sloan, Chad Bailey, Michele Brown, Brad Simmons, Chelsea (Chase) Fletchall, Jennah (Nick) Flynn, John (Kim) Ernzen, Austen, Nicholas and Dylan Serrano; one brother, Harold L. Hattok two sister-in-laws, Margary (Jerome) Scheele and Peggy Brown; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ginny of 59 years, and three sister-in-laws, Doris Lambie, Betty Harre and Margaret Kreutzer.
He enjoyed his cattle, gardening and tinkering on motors of all kinds.
Visitation beginning with the praying of the rosary will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph of the Valley Church in rural Leavenworth, Kan. Private burial will follow at a later date. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph-St. Lawrence Church.
