Obituary for John Alan Spaulding

John “Alan” Spaulding, 72, of Leavenworth, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at home. He was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Alva, Okla., to Shelby and Margaret Jane (Day) Spaulding.

He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1967. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He began working for Hallmark Cards in 1970 and retired in 2009, after 39 years as a warehouse specialist.

On April 28, 1973, Alan married Barbara Beckerjeck. She survives at the home. He is also survived by a daughter, Kerry Fry and husband, Dwight; a granddaughter, Hayleigh; and several niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cheryl Fitzpatrick and Susan Bierschbach.

Throughout his life Alan enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. His biggest joy was cheering on his granddaughter Hayleigh in soccer and softball.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice.
