Obituary for Janice Carpenter

Janice Kay Carpenter, 74, of Easton, Kan., passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 6, 1947, in Easton, Kan., to Lyle and Betty (Thornburgh) Sloan.

On November 5, 1966, she married Lloyd Carpenter on November 5, 1966, and they had two children. Janice is survived by her husband; her daughter, Amy (Chris) Carpenter-Hildebrandt; her son, Chris (Jennifer) Carpenter; grandchildren, Dallas (Ashley), Kelsey, Christopher and Nicholas Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Christopher and Emerson Carpenter; brothers, Poly (Judy) Sloan and Bill (Kacy) Sloan; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Janice ran a home-based day care for many years, served as a bus monitor for Easton USD 449 and was a stay-at-home mother during her children’s younger years.

She could always be found at Pleasant Ridge sporting events and music programs supporting her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Her and her twin sister, Joyce, had their “reserved seats” by the score table at every basketball game. They loved cheering on the kids at their sporting events. Janice loved her church family at Easton Methodist Church and was actively involved in many church activities, running the country store at church fundraisers for many years.

Over the years, Janice fed many kids at her home. Whether you were family, a friend or a friend of the family, you were always fed a homecooked meal. She prepared several meals for her children’s friends and grandchildren’s friends. She hosted many family gatherings and holidays. No one ever left hungry, she made sure of that. Janice supported many community and school events, always donating her time and donating food, especially her famous frosted fudge brownies.

Janice loved to go to garage sales, watch professional wrestling, work puzzles, go “people watching” and sew stamped cross stitch tablecloths and baby blankets. She loved to be around her family, and she loved and cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Goldie Carpenter; her sister, Teri Schuler and twin sister, Joyce Watkins; a nephew, Craig Schuler; and great grandson, Oliver Lloyd Carpenter.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Easton United Methodist Church. A funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, at the church. Burial will be at Easton Cemetery. A dinner will follow at Easton Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Easton Methodist Church in her honor.
