Obituary for James Maahs

James A. Maahs, 57, of Leavenworth, passed away unexpectedly, January 3, 2023. He was born in February of 1965, in Philadelphia, Penn., the youngest of nine siblings, and his mother’s favorite.

After graduating from North Catholic High School for boys in Philadelphia, James enlisted in the United Stated Air Force, where he served for 20 years earning the position of Technical Sergeant. During his years of service in the military he achieved numerous accolades, including the United States Air Force Accommodation Medal with one oak leaf cluster.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Hill) Maahs; and three sisters, Helen Kauffman, Elizabeth Kucowski and Maryjean Marks.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Unha; his beloved daughter, Hannah Kim; and siblings, Joan A. Maahs, Bobbie Haegele, Joseph A. Maahs, Patricia J. Bowers and Charles A. Maahs.

James was employed at Northrop Grumman for 18 years where he attained the position of Parametric Data Base Management Analyst.

He enjoyed collecting and displaying model trains, bike riding, long drives, fishing and spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Damien Snyder officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to his daughter, Hannah Maahs, for her wellbeing and future care.
