Obituary for James Garner

James Raymond Charles Garner, 58, of Leavenworth, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at home. He was born Feb. 3, 1964, in North Little Rock, Ark., to Frank Sr. and Sammie (Daniel) Garner.

He moved to Kansas in 1968 due to his father’s job. James attended Freeman Ave., Church of God, later named Kansas City Community Church, with Rev. Clinton Youngman and Bishop Prim. He received his education at Coronado High and graduated June of 1985 with awards from vocational training works.

James is survived by five sisters, Lois White, Rose Gray, Teresa Nard, Wyona Massey (Eugene) and Sarah Garner; five brothers, Roosevelt Garner (Dorothy, Excell Gray (Joyce), Rufus Gray Sr., Frank Garner Jr., Alvin Garner Sr. (Tanya) and Lawrence Garner (Belinda); two aunts, Alline Maxwell and Doris Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, O’Neil Gray and Louis Garry; and two sisters, Joann Glin and Estella Tate.

James was the life of the party, he enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, board games and dancing. He had a sense of humor and was always a joy and delight to be around.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Riverside Resources
