Obituary for Ilka Csizmazia de Somogy

Ilka Johanna Csizmazia De Somogy passed away December 8,2022, at Providence
Hospital. She was born to Victor Ann and Nico Csizmazia on March 13,1946 in Brisbane,
Australia.

Ilka graduated from Lansing High School in 1964. She was an exceptional student of
the Theater and Dramatics, at Lansing High School, Kansas State University and St.
Mary College from which she graduated. She was cast in many plays.

She married Kenneth Thomas in August of 1964. They had three children, Todd
Thomas (Arlene), Daniel Thomas and Karen Lynn Thomas. They later divorced.

Ilka was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Thomas; her daughter, Karen Lynn; and
a sister, Nicolet.

Ilka attended Northeast Area Kansas Vocational Technical Training school and became
a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1975. She worked at Providence Hospital, Cushing
Hospital, Sisters of Charity and as a Private Duty Nurse. As a Private Duty Nurse she
was often requested by the patient's family to care for their loved one.

She was a member of the Cushing Women’s Volunteer for the American Red Cross and
The Women’s VFW Auxiliary of Leavenworth Post 56. Ilka loved animals, working in the
churches and crocheting. She also donated to many charities.

Ilka resided at The Lansing Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was loved by staff and
residents. She was a kind and caring person and will be missed by her friends there,
Jordan was a special caregiver, who she loved. Ilka quickly gained love from the staff at
Providence Hospital.

She leaves behind a son, Todd Thomas (Arlene); three grandchildren, Tiffany, Cheyenne
and Christina; three great grandchildren, Nate, Alonzo and Elias; three sisters, Ingrid Susan Carter, Victoria Csizmazia and Lucille Joyce; and many nieces and nephews. Ilka will be greatly missed by her family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with the rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. Glenn Snow, O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
