Obituary for Helen Naylon

Helen L. Grady Naylon, 102, of Leavenworth, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023. She was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Lansing, Kan., the daughter of Edward J. Grady and Katherine E. Navinsky.

On Oct. 26, 1946, Helen married Joseph F. Naylon. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mildred Skahan and Kay Grady; a brother, Tom Grady; as well as a daughter, Mary Ann Boyle.

Helen is survived by her daughters Patricia Washburn (Thomas D.) and Mary Lou Black (Jay), nephew James E. Skahan (Vicki), seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
She was a bookkeeper for several local companies including Gould National Battery, Mary Kern Travel Agency, and the Wood Oil Co. before retiring in 1985.

She was active in the Altar Society, Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association and many other ministries at St. Joseph’s Church. She was also a member of The Friendship Club, a lifetime member of the Leavenworth Garden Club and played cards in the same ladies bridge club for over 66 years.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. with the praying of the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
