Obituary for Elsie DuBois (Branum)

Elsie DuBois, 94, of Leave worth, departed the Earthly realm Monday, Aug. 22, 2022. She was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Weston, Mo., to the union of Lena and Lafayette “Lafe” Branum.

On Nov. 19, 1946, Elsie married the love of her life, Malvin R. DuBois, in Leavenworth, Kan. The happy couple was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Lena Christine and Melinda Sue.

They settled down in Leavenworth, Kan., to raise their family. Elsie worked for the Leavenworth Schools as a baker. She made the most amazing bread this side of Heaven!

Later in life, Elsie and Bob moved to Chillicothe, Mo., where they spent many wonderful years. Much of their time was spent gardening, bird watching and growing her favorite flowers. Her irises and poppies were stunning! Elsie’s time later in life was spent taking care of the family, sending the sweetest notes and cards to her loved ones, enjoying a tasty margarita and going to the casino. One of her most endearing qualities was that the family respected her authority. She was the true matriarch of the family.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her daughter, Melinda Sue Laprade.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Lena Bohannon and husband, Carroll of Leavenworth; a son-in-law, George Laprade of Chillicothe, Mo.; four grandchildren, Dale Bohannon II and fiancé, Cindy Frost of Leavenworth, Scott Laprade and wife, Elizabeth of Woodstock, Ga., Scott Bohannon of Leavenworth and Heather Chapman and partner, Tyrone Midgyett of Chillicothe; nine great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Carly Bohannon of Leavenworth, Kenzie (Axel) of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Ashlyn (Will) of Lawrence, Kan., Nick Bohannon of Leavenworth, Emma and Kieran Laprade of Woodstock, Ga., and Henry “Lafe” and Hayden Chapmen of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews, including the Amos Boys who got grandpa in trouble a lot, as well as friends far and wide.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at the R.L.Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with Pastor Alex Wilson, officiating. Burial will follow at Wheeling Cemetery in Wheeling, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Leavenworth County Humane Society or Forrest O. Triplett Animal Shelter.
