Obituary for Delores Simpson
Delores “Dee” Darlene Simpson, 91, of Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at her home. She was born March 5, 1931, in Atchison, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Jenkins) Shockey.
Dee is survived by her two children, Daniel (Helen Pappas) Simpson of Leavenworth and Debbie R. Nelson of Hammond, La.; four grandchildren, Michael (Becca) Simpson, Rebecca (Alan Melton) Nelson, Steven (Tracy) Nelson and Jenny Simpson; and seven great-grandchildren, Ava, Skye, Lillian, Hunter, Violet, Zachary and Chandler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles “Bill” William Simpson; five brothers, James, Lewis, Jack, Paul and Bill Shockey; and five sisters, Loretta Dunster, Bessie Simpson, Margaret Baker, Rosemary Cornforth and Betty Nelson.
Dee enjoyed making dolls. She was an avid bowler. She owned and operated Gift Galley. Dee also worked for the Leavenworth Schools as a Para educator.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
