Obituary for David Sparks

David “Sparky” Allen Sparks, 68, of Leavenworth, died Monday, December 12, 2022, at Providence Medical Center. He was born April 23, 1954, in Leavenworth, the son of Roy and Velma (Derry) Sparks.

On April 30, 1976, David married Linda Marie Rush in Leavenworth, Kan. She survives at the home. He is also survived by a sister, Violet St. Clair of Breckinridge, Mo.; brother, Russell Sparks of Cameron, Mo.; nephew, William “Billy” (Denise) Dillon Jr. of Leavenworth, Kan.; brother and sisters-in-law, Elaine (Bo) McClure, Theresa (Jim) Sloan, Mary Wood, Peggy (Wally) Winstead, Julie (Todd) McBroom, Robert (Geneva) Rush and Tim Rush; many nieces, nephews, cousins and exceptional friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Adam Matthew Sparks; a sister, Lula Dillon; and a brother, Roy Sparks.

David worked at many places including Wholesale Battery, Geiger Ready Mix, Larkin Excavating and Lexeco, Inc. He also owned and operated a BMW Welding Shop and Sparky’s Automotive in Lansing for many years, before going to work by himself under Sparky’s LLC, for the last several years.

He was an avid car guy, he owned his own race car, refurbished old 72’ pick-ups and loved going go cart racing. He enjoyed being a member of local car clubs and attending shows. David was an avid auction follower. He also enjoyed roping, boating at Perry Lake and going to the Leavenworth County Fair.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or Meals on Wheels.
