Obituary for David Inkman

David R. Inkman, 90, of Lansing, Kansas died Friday, February 11, 2022. He was born June 10, 1931, in Leavenworth, Kansas, to Henry and Anna (Pranke) Inkman.

He attended school, K-8, at St. Joseph’s and then Immaculata High. David joined the Army and served 21 years until his retirement in 1972. He served in the Korean War and was stationed for a period in Germany. When not overseas he was a guard at the U. S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. After his retirement from the Army, David worked alongside his brother Stanley at Stanley’s grocery store, Inkman IGA, for many years. He was also a member of the Elks and Eagles of Leavenworth.

On May 1, 1954, David married Gloria A. Gaffin at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They were married 62 years before she preceded him in death June 30, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert Inkman, Henry Inkman, Leonard Inkman and Stanley Inkman; and a sister, Margaret Kruse; a brother-in -law, Harry Gaffin; and his son, David R. Inkman II.

David is survived by his two daughters, Lynn (Dale) Shinault and Cynthia (David) Palmer; two sisters-in-law, Greta Inkman and Jonnie Gaffin; two grandsons, Anthony Palmer and Corbin (Rachael) Palmer; as well as many nieces, nephews and four great grandchildren.

Due to covid, there will be a private family service with military honors at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, where David will be laid to rest with his wife and son. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
