Obituary for David Daniel

David Timothy Daniel was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 14, 1952; the eldest son of the late Reverend Claud Daniel and Kathryn (Smith) Daniel. He passed away Wednesday night on November 2, 2022 at the age of 70.
David’s family moved around while his father was stationed at various places in the military. After leaving Baumholder, Germany in 1959, the family returned to Augusta, Georgia. Later in 1960 his father was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where David began the 2nd grade at Lincoln elementary at the age of 8. David, along with his siblings was baptized in 1962 at the Bethel A.M.E. church in Leavenworth under the leadership of Rev. Dancy.
David graduated from Leavenworth Senior High in 1971. While in high school, David was the Company Commander of the ROCT, a member of the Honor Guard and the Drama Club.
In January of 1973, David married Bessie Haines; his high school sweetheart. To this union, 2 children were born. He enlisted the U S Army that same year and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and later stationed at Fort Gordon outside of Augusta, Georgia, where he was a Communication Specialist and completed training in Radio Teletype Operator, a Driver certification in jeeps and 5/Quarter and 2.5-ton vehicles. David continued his service in Central and South America in Panama. He left the military in August of 1975 with an Honorable Discharge.
David attended the Kansas City, Kansas Area Vo-Tech school and later became an employee at the KPL (Kansas Power and Light in Leavenworth). Other employment included working as a Maintenance supervisor at the Holiday Inn Express, a Maintenance and Renovation Specialist at the Valley View apartments, before working as a machine operator in the candle department at Hallmark Cards.
David was very smart!! While watching Jeopardy, he knew all the answers before they even finished the questions!!!!!!!!!!!!! He loved his family and all the family gatherings. He had special nick-names for his nieces Pixie, Trixie, and Dixie based off one of his childhood cartoons (two mice and a cat with a bow tie) with Mr. Jinks. He loved music and enjoyed sports. He especially enjoyed watching the NFL and attending the Raiders games at the stadium! He was a true Raiders fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has lived in Long Beach, California for over 20 years.
There are so many precious memories of David there isn’t enough time to tell it all. Growing up, he wore many hats. He was a chef, a baby sitter, an instructor, just to name a few. When we spoke on the phone, he would go down memory lane, talking about the time our grandfather called him “taxi-cab” because he was born in the back seat of a taxi. He told of the many stories of early days when we arrived in Leavenworth, and so much more!!” He had a sense of humor and a warm smile, but he loved the Lord. Every time we asked how he was doing, he would say, “Oh I can’t complain! I thank the man upstairs for being alive”. Then he would say “if you’re upright then you’re alright.”
David leaves to cherish his memories 1 daughter, Tracy Thomas of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; 1 son, Leon Daniel of Leavenworth, Kansas; his son-in-law Michael Thomas of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; two sisters, Denise J. Moore (Allen) of Evans, Georgia; Lois McFadden of Topeka, Kansas; 3 brothers, Ron Daniel of Leavenworth, Kansas; Kenneth Daniel (Martha) of La Habra, California, and Jeffrey Daniel of Long Beach, California; 3 aunts Lois Steward of Phenix City, Alabama; Nancy Smith of Augusta, Georgia and Clara Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; 6 grandchildren; Makaela Lee and David Lee, both of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Isaiah Adkins of Austin Texas; Dalisha Dannel and Davon Dannel of New Orleans, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Donald C. Daniel, Milton B. Smith and Michael A Daniel, 1 granddaughter Kamilha Daniel and a very special friend Cindy Combites. David will forever live on in our hearts.
