Obituary for Cynthia Daniel

Cynthia Elizabeth Daniel, 66, of Leavenworth, passed to the hands of our Lord, Aug. 18, 2020, after a long illness. She was born Oct. 17, 1953, in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of Charles and Maryland Garwood.

As a child of a U.S. Army Family and also as an Army wife, Cindy honorably served the Army Community her entire life. As a child social worker, Cindy specialized in assisting children under the age of 18 to overcome obstacles in their lives through case management, counseling, and skill-building at multiple locations throughout the United States.

On June 10, 1972, Cindy married Scott N. Daniel in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He survives at the home. She is also survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth T. Daniel of North Plymouth, Minnesota.; a granddaughter, Jacqueline E. Foster; a brother, Chuck Garwood; and a sister, Crystal Brumbaugh.

Following her husband’s retirement from the Army, Cindy served as the Director of the Leavenworth Head Start Pre-School program and as Area Coordinator for the Northeast Kansas Community Action Program serving over 300 low income families in need in Northeast and Central Kansas. She was actively involved in the Leavenworth Alliance Against Family Violence supporting woman impacted by sexual and domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking. As a Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) community volunteer, she advocated to help abused and neglected children within the Leavenworth Court system. Cindy’s goal was to “pass it on and pay if forward” by doing a good deed for someone every day.

She loved to ride her Harley Davidson Trike Motorcycle, was an active member of the Leavenworth Wolf Pack and fulfilled her dream of going to the 2019 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. She was an avid golfer, adoring wife, loving mother and treasured grandmother who loved to cook and nurture her family and just “simply loved life.”
