Obituary for Chocha Griswold
ChoCha Griswold, aka “Georgia” was born in a small village outside Hiroshima, Japan on Jan. 15, 1942 to father Choi, Upi and mother Kim, Soon Deok. They were working at her grandfather’s orchard and later moved back to Korea in 1949. She was the second of seven siblings and found that she was self-motivated to help financially care for her family at an early age by opening her own beauty store that ultimately supplied many Korean movie actors and actresses.
She met her husband, John A. Griswold in 1963 while he was in the Army stationed at
Camp Beavers, Korea near Seoul and were married soon after in 1964. They have traveled the world while stationed at many US military bases but ultimately found permanent residence in Leavenworth, Kan. before and upon their retirement.
ChoCha is survived at the home by her husband, John A. Griswold. She is further survived by her children, John Wallace Griswold of Smithville, Mo., and Kim Marie (Griswold) Trentham and husband Chris of Independence, Mo.; her mother-in-law, Donna Griswold (age 100) of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Wes and Cleta Wulff of Houston, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Griswold of Shawnee, Kan., and Charlotte and Harlan Daniels of Kansas City, Kan; two brothers, Wondo Choi and Chuldo Choi and three sisters , Inae, Sinae and Sunae (Maya) all currently residing in Korea; and has many nieces and nephews both locally and abroad that loved her and will miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Younae; brother in-law, Donn Griswold; and a daughter in-law, Lindee (Swann) Griswold.
ChoCha, also known as Georgia to her friends, worked for 27 years at Hallmark Cards and retired from there with many friends made over the years. She’s was an avid antique collector and dealer and rarely missed local estate and yard sales in search of treasures to supply her business. At home, she loved tending to her gardens, large assortment of flowers and plants and had a love of cooking for others. Those who knew her would agree that she was a generous woman and passionate about her interests, business but family first and foremost.
She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and many acquaintances.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Private burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Flowers and donations may be sent to RL Leintz funeral home in her name. Masks and social distancing are highly encouraged.
