Bridgette Lavone Lewis Williams was born November 2, 1958, in Danville, Kentucky. She was educated in Petersburg and in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Wuerzburg American High School (Germany).
She dedicated her Life to Christ while she was in high school and always took her siblings to Sunday School and Church.
She was an Army Brat, dedicated Army Wife and Department of Army Civilian Wife of 40 years and was proudly tied to the military her entire life.
She was an excellent cook and loved to host and entertain. Her family and friends loved her chicken, 7-Up pound cake and greens. Her fried chicken is legendary as being the best in her family. She has a vast collection of fine crystal, elephants, cookbooks and bears.
Bridgette loved to dance and was always trying to teach her nieces and nephews how to dance, from the Twist, to the Hustle, New Jack Swing, she loved it all. Her love of music was expansive. The Jackson Five was one of her favorite groups. She loved Teddy Pendergrass, Barry White and other Jazz artists such as Grover Washington, Najee and Kenny G. She loved gospel music, especially anything produced before 1990. In high school, she was a gymnast, a cheerleader and a gifted writer on the yearbook staff .
Bridgette worked at the Montessori Children’s House, Killeen Texas; Leavenworth County Special Education Cooperative; Alliance Against Family Violence Safe Kid’s Daycare and Leavenworth USD 453 Parents as Teachers. She was passionate about early childhood education and making sure her “little people” learned and developed into smart and intelligent adults.
Bridgette had a great sense of humor and loved a great practical joke, which she usually aimed at her husband, Walt, whom she often lovingly called “Mr. Professor” among other things.
Her passion for leading Christian Women Fellowships, prayer calls and sisterhood retreats was clear. She was a founding member of the FLMGS Women’s Ministry, Fort Leavenworth and a dedicated member of the Les Novelettes of Leavenworth and of Leavenworth Alumnae Chapter Sorority of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She received the Citizen of the Year Award in 2015 from the Omicron Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. As part of her devotion to the Prayer Ministry, she’s participated in the Monday Morning PrayerLine with her closest friends in Christ and prayer partners.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Plassie Mae Lewis; mother and father-in-law, Jannie Elizabeth Perkins Williams and Fred Williams Sr.
She leaves behind her father William H. Lewis, Sr. (Debbie), siblings Lynda C. Randolph, Lumberton North Carolina; Tearra A. Waring, Lumberton, North Carolina; William H. Lewis, Jr. (Melissa), Overland Park, Kansas; Deastra A. Hobbs, Stafford Virginia; and many loved nieces, nephews and special friends.
Her husband Walter Lee Williams and son Walter Brandon Williams survives at the home in Leavenworth Kansas. She has two very special daughters, Colonel Raquel Gallman (Harker Heights, Texas) and Major Jada Conner (Brandywine, Maryland).
To know Bridgette was to love Bridgette and it is her love that will continue to fill our hearts with Joy.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2022, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
